House & Dog Care Welcome Pack

Welcome! Thank you so much for looking after our home and the boys. This guide covers everything you need to know for a smooth stay.

Arrival Schedule: Mom and Dad staying Friday night, then Noir joining Saturday night and using the sofa bed in the guest room.

    The Dogs - Daily Routine

    Morning (6-7am)

Feeding: Both dogs like to be fed first thing between 6-7am

    Morning walks:

    • Seamus needs an early morning street walk - he won't do his business in the back garden and will hold it in. He'll usually squat and go within 100 yards in the gutter
    • Riley is happy to do his business in the back garden
    • Early wake-ups: The dogs wake up pretty early, so be prepared!

    Evening Routine (8:30-9pm)

    • Bedtime: Between 8:30-9pm
    • Seamus will start getting agitated around bedtime
    • Riley gets bedtime treats - give him a generous handful (not just a few). This helps prevent him getting an upset stomach in the morning
    • Riley's quirk: He likes to get his treat, then try to come out again for more!
    • Lower the garden room blinds when the dogs go to bed

    After Evening Walk (6-7pm timeframe)

    • Treat time: When they come back from their evening walk, they expect treats
    • Use kibble from the right-hand container (this is part of their daily allowance, so it's taken away from their regular kibble)
    • Nice weather: Sprinkle a handful of kibble around the lawn - throw it in the air and let it scatter. Mind the poos! They'll sniff the treats out
    • If it's raining: Do it in the garden room - just throw treats to them while they sit there waiting. They love this game!

    Riley's Medication

    • What: Half a tablet twice daily (for his eyes)
    • Where: Left-hand drawer under the TV by his crate
    • How: Put a bit of peanut butter (top shelf in cupboard) on a spoon, bury the tablet in it - he'll lick it off. Otherwise he won't eat it
    • Don't forget Seamus: Give him some peanut butter too so he doesn't feel left out!

    Riley's Morning Sickness

    • Riley occasionally gets sick at night/in the morning
    • He eats a lot of grass in the garden - let him do this
    • He'll throw up and then be able to eat fine
    • The bedtime treats help prevent morning upset stomach

Seamus's Upset Tummy (Rare but Important)

    • Hasn't happened for a while - fingers crossed it won't occur!
    • Warning sign: He won't eat his breakfast
    • What he needs: To get outside and find grass to eat
    • Where to find grass: Down side alleys or up around the houses - look for side alleys that have grass in them
    • What happens: He'll chomp on grass, then unfortunately have a couple of poos (normally one okay, one sloppy)
    • After: He'll be fine and will want to eat again

    Paw & Ear Check

    • When: If the boys stick their heads into weeds/long grass (they like to do this!)
    • What to check: Look for grass seeds in their ears and around their paws/toes
    • Good news: They've generally been good, but worth checking if they've been exploring

    Walking the Dogs

    Street Walks

    • Best approach: One dog each, or take them separately if you prefer
    • Route: Just head out for walks up and down the roads with poo bags
    • Late evening options:
      • Head towards the church if you want to avoid the foxes
      • OR go left if you want to see the foxes (but the dogs will get more agitated)
      • Longer route: Go around the back roads in a circle - either keep turning left-left-left or right-right-right to go round in a circle

    Important - Fox Route Information

    • Going left from the house will take you where the foxes are
    • The dogs will get agitated if they see the foxes on walks
    • You can choose: avoid foxes (go towards church) or see foxes (go left, but expect agitated dogs)

    Fox Feeding (Optional)

    • When: Around 9pm
    • What: Put kibble around the back of the car (use kibble from right-hand container)
    • How: Close the porch door first, then 1-2 foxes will appear to eat
    • Kibble storage: There's kibble in a Tupperware container under the coats in the utility room - easier to grab a couple of handfuls from there
    • On walks: You can take kibble with you to feed foxes during walks if you want
      • Use the kibble bag (in the utility room) and clip it onto your belt
      • You'll see more foxes on walks (about 8) rather than just the couple that come to the driveway
      • They'll be starving while we're away!

    Food Storage

    • Right-hand container: Kibble for walks/treats
    • Left-hand container: Regular dog food (will be pre-loaded for you)

    Dog Collars

    • Important: The dogs have slightly different sized collars
    • Seamus: Gets the smaller collar
    • Check: Hold the brown leather collars together to compare sizes - it's not a massive deal but better to get them right

    Kitchen & Food

    Help Yourself

Please help yourself to whatever's in the larder, fridge, or freezer. We'll try to make sure we've got a fair bit in the house for you.

Local Shops (if you need supplies)

    • General stores: 5-10 minute walk
    • Big Tesco: 15 minutes walk away
    • Lots of options available if you need to get any supplies

    Appliances

    • Smart oven (utility room): Easier to use than the main oven
      • Turn on using the wall plug with 4-5 gang switches
      • Switches work in sequence: blender → microwave → smart oven
      • Quick and easy to use, like a microwave
    • Sonya's coffee machine: Easy to use, feel free
    • Espresso machine: Please DON'T use - takes skill and could go wrong!

    House Systems

    Doors

Important: When closing doors, ratchet the handle all the way up to the right. This lifts the door into place and keeps it upright, preventing it from dropping over time.

    Garden Room Blinds

    • Controller: White remote in drawer underneath the TV
    • Basic use: Up and down arrows to raise/lower all blinds
    • Individual control: Keep pressing the middle button (with 3 lights) to cycle between left blind only, middle blind only
    • Bedtime: Lower blinds when dogs go to bed

    Shower

    • Left dial:
      • Rotate AWAY from you = normal water flow
      • Rotate TOWARDS you = water comes from lower hose and hits you in chest with cold water!
      • Leave in center for mild temperature
    • Right dial: Controls temperature

    Comfort

    • Parasol: Available in garden if you want shade (easy to use)
    • Fans: Various fans around the house if it gets too hot
    • Guest room air con: There's an air conditioning unit in the guest room that plugs into an outside vent (you'll see it there). If it gets really hot and opening windows doesn't help, feel free to use it

    TVs

    • Living room TV: Can be tricky - separate instructions will be provided
    • Garden room TV: Easier to use
    • Kitchen/bedroom/bathroom TVs: Should be straightforward

    WiFi & Practical Info

    WiFi Access

    • Network name: Lagotto
    • Password: Riley0803 (uppercase R, lowercase i-l-e-y-0-8-0-3)

    Bins

    • No bin collection days while you're here
    • Just need to pull the empty bins back alongside the car after collection
